Who We Are?
The eyes are a precious resource of man. Various eye diseases cause blindness. Cataract is a major cause of blindness in our country. In Bangladesh, about 25 lakh people are blind due to cataract. In this case, it is possible to regain correct vision in the eye by inserting an intraocular lens (IOL). In addition, timely treatment of various eye diseases if taken, one gets relief from blindness
For the past 14 years, Maula Bakhsh Sardar Charitable Eye Hospital, a health project of Maula Bakhsh Sardar Memorial Trust, has been providing eye care services including all types of operations to the eye patients with the aim of eliminating blindness in the country with the mantra “Give Life , Give Light “. At present it is a complete eye hospital with all modern equipment.
ROP (Retinopathy of Prematurity)
You know what?
About 60,000 premature newborns suffer from ROP every year causes blindness for life. But if diagnosed and properly treated the disease in the fastest time this blindness is complete preventable.
Who are immature newborns?
Babies born at or before 35 weeks of gestation or Babies who weigh 2 kg or less at birth are Immature newborn.
What happens in ROP?
Premature newborn baby’s photosensitive screen or retina is immature in condition This results in damage to the eye sight. At the right time ,If the retina does not mature properly, the child is at risk of severe blindness.
What to do?
After a certain period of time after the birth of the baby, the baby’s choke should be examined with the help of a specialized device by an ophthalmologist specializing in ROP.
When should you get an eye exam?
- Baby’s eye examination within 3 weeks to 4 weeks after birth should be done 3 weeks after the birth of the baby.
- Even if it is delayed for any reason Eye examination should be done as soon as possible.
Considering all these aspects, we have launched a specialized children's eye care program for children.
- All over the world there are now separate specialist groups working for children’s eyes
- In our country, the number of children’s eye care institutions separately for children is very less
- Children may not express their eye problems like adults
- Children’s eyesight is not the same as that of adults
- Improper feeding of children’s eyes can lead to chronic lazy eye or permanent damage
- A growing number of children with allergic eye problems in the country, random or under-treatment can cause serious eye damage
- Diagnosing and treating the cause of children’s squint or strabismus has a higher chance of improvement
- It is important to have a child’s eyesight tested before going to school.
